At its January 4 session, the five Police Commission members elected officers for the agency for 2011. The panel reelected Republican Duane Giannini, left, to another term as chairman, and also reelected Republican Brian Budd, right, to another term as vice chairman. Veronica London from High Tough High Tech of Connecticut, a company that provides science programs for students, was busy in Hawley Elementary School’s science lab on Thursday, December 16, giving presentations to second grade students. Kristin Compton’s class, above, learned how mass means objects have space, and that space cannot take up another object’s space. To demonstrate this, Ms London had a clear bottle filled halfway with vinegar. Baking soda from a blue balloon attached to the bottle’s opening was dropped into the liquid, to reveal the balloon being expanded because the baking soda could not take up the vinegar’s space.
