CROP Walk participants ambled through a scenic sylvan setting at Fairfield Hills on Sunday, October 24, during the annual fundraising event intended to end hunger at home and around the world. CROP is an acronym for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Fundraising walks are communitywide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local churches. Through sponsorship and fundraising, CROP Walks raise more than $16 million annually. Members of at least five Newtown churches, of all ages, were signed up to participate in this year’s walk, which stepped off from the area in front of Cochran House at Fairfield Hills shortly after 2. A two-car accident that occurred on Dodgingtown Road (Route 302) near Dodgingtown Market about 7:55 am Wednesday, October 27, caused traffic detours in Dodgingtown Center during the morning rush. Police, Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters, and volunteer ambulance crews responded to the accident. Police said that motorist Amy Kahan, 38, of Bethel, who was driving a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible, was attempting to exit the parking lot at 57 Dodgingtown Road and make a left turn to head northward on Dodgingtown Road, as motorist Wilson Chacho, 31, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Plymouth Neon sedan southward on Dodgingtown Road. The two vehicles collided. Ambulance staffers evaluated the people involved in the accident at the scene, but no one was transported. Police issued Kahan a written warning for failure to grant the right of way. (Gorosko photo)

Town police called in the state police’s bomb squad early Monday afternoon to properly remove and dispose of an old rusted military hand grenade that a local woman had brought to the police station for proper disposal.
