Police had to stay positioned on Toddy Hill Road during the day Sunday because residents were driving around the barricades that had been placed at the intersections of Quarry Ridge Road and Sugarloaf Road to divert traffic away from a series of poles that had been pulled down during the storm very early Sunday morning. Police officers had to also check on the barricades Sunday evening because residents continued to drive around them and, in a few instances, knocked them down, creating another public safety hazard. When a large tree near the end of the driveway at 40 Bennett’s Bridge Road fell around 5:30 Saturday afternoon, it pulled down a live power line that burned for nearly an hour, creating a crevice that was the full width of one of the road’s lanes. By Sunday morning when this photo was taken and an AT&T crew was making repairs to its lines, the damage to the roadway was clearly visible. (Hicks photo)
