Members of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company invite the public to join them for the company’s 23rd Annual Lobsterfest on Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12. The event will be held at the company’s main station, at 18-20 Riverside Road. Hours on Friday are 5 to 9 pm, and on Saturday from 3 to 9 pm. Ticket prices have been held at $22 in ad-vance and $24 at the door for the third year, and can be purchased in advance at the Newtown fire marshal’s office within Newtown Municipal Center, at The Newtown Bee offices at 5 Church Hill Road, or at the Riverside Road Firehouse. The event is a fundraiser for the fire company. On Friday morning, the company will be featured on FOX-61 when reporter Jeff Valin visits and does a set of his “Firehouse Fridays” series from the Riverside Road station. Set your DVRs if you must. This Subaru station wagon was involved in a three-vehicle accident that occurred about 5:57 pm on June 1 on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Bramble Trail. Police report that motorist Hoa Nguyen, 38, of Old Greenwich was driving a 2007 Honda sedan northward on Hanover Road in front of a northbound 2003 Subaru station wagon driven Michael Labet, 62, of New Milford. At that time, motorist Jodi French-Gold, 47, of Dinglebrook Lane was driving a 2008 Subaru station wagon southward on Hanover Road. The Honda attempted to make a left turn to enter a private driveway at 139 Hanover Road, but in doing so the Honda drove in front of the approaching southbound 2008 Subaru. The 2008 Subaru attempted to avoid the Honda, but could not and the two vehicles collided. The 2008 southbound Subaru continued onward and collided with the northbound 2003 Subaru, according to police. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staffers went to the scene, but all people involved in the accident refused transportation to Danbury Hospital, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the scene. Police said they issued Nguyen a written warning for failure to grant the right of way. (Gorosko photo)

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company Firefighter George Lockwood, Jr, uses a broom to clean up some spilled automotive fluids following a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 11 am on May 26 on westbound Church Hill Road on the bridge above Interstate 84. The driver of a SUV was stopped and waiting behind a stopped compact Housatonic Area Regional Transit (HART) bus, which was waiting for a red traffic signal. When the signal turned green, the SUV rolled forward and struck the rear end of the bus. There were two passengers on the bus. There were no injuries, according to police. (Gorosko photo)

Newtown police and police from several nearby towns combined their efforts on May 28 on Berkshire Road (Route 34) near its intersection with Lone Oak Meadows Road and Johnny Appleseed Drive to enforce seatbelt laws as part of the national Click-It or Ticket seatbelt enforcement campaign. The fine for failure to wear a seatbelt recently increased from $37 to $92. The enforcement project continues through June 6. (Gorosko photo)
