Customers of Friendly Citgo on South Main Street had a once-a-year opportunity today on March 14: The chance to throw a pie into store manager Carol Lafreniere’s face. Ms Lafreniere organized another fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), where whipped cream pies were waiting for customers who made a $5 donation to MDA. Carol and crew — including Theresa Roberto, on the left — raised $270 this year, and took “about 25 pies to the face,” she said. Customers were also able to purchase paper shamrocks for MDA, and this year they were also able to enjoy cupcakes provided by Cherries Cupcakes, a new cupcake shop located across the street from the convenience store and gas station. While the one-day event is long finished, customers can always donate to MDA during the year thanks to collection boxes on the counter inside the store. The Newtown store raised a total of $1,016 through the additional paper shamrock sales and donations during the past 12 months, which was part of the more than $20,000 raised through all Consumers Petroleum stores, according to Ms Lafreniere.
