Bill and Kathy Hurley of Newtown have devoted one entire room this holiday season to Mr Hurley’s Department 56 Snow Village collection. Many pieces received over the years as gifts, or found at flea markets and tag sales, reflect the Hurley’s personalities, such as the ski village, the garage sale scene, and “Big Bill’s Garage.” A Hawley Pond scene, complete with tiny luminaria, is one of the featured scenes this year. Mr Hurley has been collecting pieces since 1986, but most years, space does not allow them to set up all of the pieces. In addition to the 91 lit pieces, plus accessories and characters that fill tiered levels in the room, additional pieces adorn the living room mantel and entry way. The village took the Hurleys nearly three weeks to set up, working on and off, and they expect to leave it up until February for friends and family to admire. (Crevier photo)
