Nearly 100 volunteers, some from as far away as Greenwich and Glastonbury, converged on Treadwell Park December 22 to plant thousands of crocus, daffodil, and flowering onion bulbs along the hillside opposite the parking area, which will bloom annually in memory of those lost during the December 14 Sandy Hook School shooting. Among the volunteers were Leslie Freyberg of Redding, pictured covering a row of bulbs, and Newtowner Alison Bardolato, who shuttled bags of bulbs to the planting crew she was assisting.
