The Board of Managers of Edmond Town Hall recently made plans to honor Newtown’s benefactress, Mary Elizabeth Hawley, on the anniversary of her 155th birthday. The board invited the public to drop by the Mary Hawley Room, just inside the main entrance of the building at 45 Main Street, to honor her memory and have some homemade birthday cookies on Wednesday, August 22. As in past years, Tom Mahoney, theater and building manager, had ordered a bouquet of red gladiolas for the Mary Hawley Room. Visitors were welcome to view the display and sign the guest book. Coincidentally, Wednesday was also the 82nd anniversary of when Edmond Town Hall began screening movies in its theater. (Hicks photo)
