This SUV came to rest upside down on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near Sherman Street, following a two-vehicle collision about 1:04 pm January 9. Police report that motorist Victoria Miller, 24, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Subaru sedan westward on Berkshire Road, stopped for a vehicle in front of her, which was making a left turn onto Sherman Street. Southbound motorist Matthew Buffone, 37, of Tonawanda, N.Y., who was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV behind the Subaru, then swerved to the right to avoid hitting the Subaru, but the Jeep drove up an embankment and struck a utility pole, causing the Jeep to roll over, land on its roof, and collide with the Subaru, police said. Both motorists were wearing seatbelts and were not injured, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members responded to the accident scene. After investigating, police arrested Buffone on charges of driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. Buffone was released on $100 bail for a January 22 court arraignment.
