$Police, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members, and Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company personnel responded to a two-vehicle accident at about 3:20 pm December 2, near the Sugar Hill Service Center at 153 Sugar Street (Route 302). Motorist Joanne Sherwood, 47, of 58 Robin Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz sedan westward on Sugar Street, was slowing to make a left turn into the driveway at 153 Sugar Street, when the Mer-cedes was struck from behind by a westbound 1999 Honda sedan driven by John Newton, 26, of Bethel. Ambulance volunteers transported Sherwood to Danbury Hospital and treated Newton at the scene. Police issued Newton an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police gave Sherwood a written warning for vehicle registration violation. (Gorosko photo)$
