Two accidents involving five vehicles on eastbound Interstate 84 occurred about 3:30 pm on May 20 in the area between the highway’s Exit 9 off-ramp and on-ramp, causing travel delays at the start of the Friday evening rush period. The incident involved eight people, including five drivers and three passengers, state police said. Two passengers complained of pain and were transported to Danbury Hospital where they were evaluated and later released. In the first accident, a Toyota stopped for traffic conditions, after which a Nissan stopped behind the Toyota. A GMC then struck the Nissan, pushing the Nissan into the Toyota. Another GMC was able to stop before becoming involved in the three-vehicle collision, but it was then struck by a Honda. State police issued the driver of the GMC which caused the first accident an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for operating an unregistered vehicle. Hawleyville firefighters responded to the incident. (Gorosko photo)
