The state has designated Newtown as a HEART Safe community, recognizing the town’s efforts in the area of cardiac care. In ceremonies at Newtown Municipal Center on June 17, Gary St Amand, second from left, a health program associate with the heart disease and stroke prevention unit of the state Department of Public Health, presented a plaque and road sign to the town signifying its HEART Safe status.
