Mr Cruson refers to the central etching as the “principal building” in the scene, as it is the mostly clearly incised, and larger than the other buildings depicted. Initially excited to think it could be the Newtown Meeting House, upon closer examination, Mr Cruson says what appeared to be a church spire is actually a chimney with smoke coming out of it. Like the other buildings on the panel, it appears to be a figment of the artist’s imagination. A close look discloses stick figures in the entrances to these two houses. (Crevier photo)
