Church Women United Inc of Newtown honored Dorothea LaBelle, left, with the Human Rights Award of 2012. Linda Manganaro handed Ms LaBelle the certificate during a CWU celebration on Sunday, March 11. Recipients and nominees are “people who have made a difference in the world and in the lives of others,” Ms Manganaro explained. Ms LaBelle, who has worked with the disabled, was “very happy and surprised” to receive the award, she said. The Human Rights Award is for leadership and service as a mentor and activist in human rights and development, as an advocate for peace and justice with no boundaries of political system, country, cultural background or religion. —Bee Photo, Bobowick
