Sandy Hook and Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a car fire on eastbound Interstate 84, just east of the Exit 10 on-ramp, about 1:10 pm on March 20. Some type of malfunction in the 2007 Ford Focus that was being towed from its rear bumper as a junk car by a hook-style wrecker caused the Ford to ignite, said Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halstead. Firefighters used water and foam to extinguish the blaze. Eastbound I-84 traffic slowed during the incident. State police provided no specifics on the incident, but said that there were no injuries or enforcement actions taken. —Bee Photo, Hicks
