Firefighters from all five local volunteer fire companies responded to two accidental fires that occurred at a barn at the Krueger property at about 9:27 am on Wednesday, May 23, at 41 Flat Swamp Road in Dodgingtown. Two small fires occurred after a person there was attempting to use a portable torch to remove some weeds outdoors next to the barn. There were no injuries. The fires caused an estimated $5,000 worth of damage, according to Fire Marshal Bill Halstead. As seen from Flat Swamp Road, Newtown Hook & Ladder’s aerial ladder was extended to the barn.
