Dogs that are at least six months old must be licensed by the town. June is the month designated for annual dog licensing. Dog licensing is performed from 8 am to 4:30 pm on Mondays through Fridays at the town clerk’s office at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street. Current rabies vaccination certificates must be presented when a dog is licensed. The town clerk’s office will sponsor a rabies clinic on June 16. The presentation of spaying and neutering certificates allows dogs to be licensed at a fee of $8. However, dogs that are unaltered have licensing fees of $19. During the first week of July, the town clerk’s office will hold a drawing to determine the #1 Dog of Newtown. The winner of the drawing will receive the dog tags bearing the #1 for the coming year. Dog licenses may be ordered by mail. For details on ordering a license by mail, contact the town clerk’s office at 203-270-4210.
