The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School held its annual Rose Ceremony on Wednesday, September 5. A roomful of students, teachers, parents, and other guests looked on as each first grade student at the school was introduced with an eighth grade student. The rose ceremony is a traditional Waldorf welcome during which each first grader receives a rose from a member of the next graduating, or lead, class. The transition from kindergarten to first grade is an important milestone at the school, marking the beginning of formal education. When the lead class graduates in June, the first graders will be there to hand them a rose in return. (Hallabeck photo)
