Sandy Hook and Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to two brush fires in Sandy Hook about 2,000 feet apart early on the afternoon of April 26. It is thought that a surge of current in suspended electrical lines caused equipment failures which resulted in the fires occurring in brush on the ground below the lines. The fire pictured occurred on the north side of Berkshire Road near its intersection with Great Ring Road. From left is Firefighter Richard Conrod, Chief Bill Halstead, and Firefighters Andy Ryan and Karl Sieling, Jr. The other fire took place on the west side of Great Ring Road near its intersection with Erin Lane.
