Thanks to donations from Newtown Congregational, Newtown United Methodist, Trinity Episcopal, St John’s Episcopal, and St Rose of Lima churches, Church Women United-Newtown has been able recently to make donations to a few local groups. On Friday, June 11, CWU-Newtown member Peg Forbell, second from left, presented checks to Barbara Gates, left, from FAITH Food Pantry in Sandy Hook; Ann Puccini, from Newtown Social Services and Salvation Army Food Pantry, second from right; and Sharon Maynard, right, representing The Newtown Fund. Church Women United is an ecumenical movement representing women of churches in Newtown. It is affiliated with the national and state Church Women United. Annual events include contributions to local projects as well as to international missions for women’s and children’s health, and participation in World Day of Prayer in March, May Friendship Day, World Community Day in November, and accompanying bible studies. For additional information about the group contact its current president, Darlene Jackson, at 203-426-5192. (Hicks photo)
