A traffic backup formed on eastbound Interstate 84 on Wednesday, July 7, following a one-car rollover accident that ended on the highway median. State police said that motorist Rosemary Loconte, 26, of Carmel, N.Y., was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire coupe in the left lane of two lanes on eastbound I-84 at about 8:21 am about 2,000 feet east of the Philo Curtis Road overpass, when the auto went off the left side of the road, struck a highway reflector post on the median, returned to the road and then went back onto the median where it struck a tree and then rolled over, landing on its roof. Loconte was able to unbuckle her seatbelt and crawl out of the overturned car, state police said. An off-duty Danbury firefighter, who was driving behind Loconte at the time of the accident, went to her aid, said Sandy Hook Fire Chief Bill Halstead. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident, in which the auto was destroyed. Loconte, who was conscious and alert, received no serious injuries, according to officials. Newtown Ambulance volunteers transported her to Danbury Hospital. (Gorosko photo)
