Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Newtown Ambulance responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident about 7:01 pm March 9 on westbound Interstate 84, just east of the Exit 11 off-ramp. State police said motorist Eric Oliver, 57, of Mahopac, N.Y., was driving a 2008 Audi A-4 sedan westward when the vehicle went off the pavement and entered the turf area off the right road shoulder. The sedan flipped over several times before it came to rest on its roof. Oliver, who was wearing a lap-shoulder safety belt when the crash occured, was able to get out of the auto by himself. The vehicle’s airbags deployed. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Oliver to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation. Oliver was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. State police verbally warned Oliver for failure to drive in the proper lane. (Hicks photo)
