Joyce DeWolfe became interested in her family genealogy a few years ago, just for fun. Having lived in Newtown for nearly 50 years, and starting with members of her family who lived in Canada, Joyce never expected to have her family tree circle back to… Newtown. Not only that, but she discovered that she is a distant relative to town benefactress Mary Elizabeth Hawley, whose portrait can be seen over Mrs DeWolfe’s shoulder in the C.H. Booth Library Genealogy Room. With Mrs DeWolfe is a recently discovered cousin, Donald Buck, left, who drove to Newtown on March 29 to present Newtown Genealogy Club member Harlan Jessup, right, with a copy of the Buck family monograph, which is now part of Booth Library’s permanent collection.
