Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members responded to a two-car accident that occurred about 10 am on Wednesday, August 21, on westbound Interstate 84, just west of the Tunnel Road overpass. State police said that Hannelore Lovell, 73, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2003 Saturn L-Series sedan, slowed due to heavy traffic, after which motorist Florin Molnar, 35, of Prospect, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, struck the rear end of the Saturn. The impact pushed the Saturn into some guardcabling. Ambulance volunteers transported Hannelore Lovell and Saturn passenger Earl Lovell, 83, of Naugatuck to Danbury Hospital to be checked for apparent minor injuries, state police said. Molnar received an infraction for following too closely, state police said. The accident caused travel delays on the highway. (Gorosko photo)
