Week ending April 18, 2014
Women Involved in Newtown (WIN) members were joined by friends and family this year for the club’s annual Easter Baskets workshop. This is the 16th year the local club has made sure that holiday baskets are filled with candy, dolls, and other items, and then delivered to a number of area locations, ensuring that Easter Sunday will be happier for dozens of children. On Friday, April 11, a work session was held at the home of WIN member Mandy Monaco. WIN President Colette Ercole reported 250 baskets were filled this year, with WIN providing $500 worth of candy and additional donations of baskets, grass, candy and dolls provided by The Chase School. Once filled, the baskets were delivered by members to Newtown Social Services and St Rose Church; AIDS Interfaith Ministry and Healing Hearts Center, both located in Danbury; and three new locations being helped by the club this year: Salvation Army of Greater Waterbury and St Vincent DePaul Mission, also in Waterbury; and Safe Haven of Southbury. Filled baskets filled many hallways of the Monaco home, and were even spilling out the front door while waiting for delivery last week. (Hicks photo)
