During a spring snowstorm at about 7:38 am on March 31, a two-vehicle head-on collision occurred near 4 Bennetts Bridge Road in Sandy Hook, just north of Berkshire Road, police said. Motorist James O’Connell, Jr, 46, of 7 Kale Davis Road was driving a 1997 Volvo 850 station wagon southwestward on Bennetts Bridge Road, as motorist Michelina DiSibio, 44, of 25 Charter Ridge Drive was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV northeastward there, police said. The Volvo went out of control on the snowy road, crossed into the opposite lane and then collided head-on with the Honda. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said that DiSibio and Volvo passenger Terri Fernand, 46, of 7 Kale Davis Road received injuries in the crash. Police said they issued O’Connell a misdemeanor summons for failure to keep to the right on a curve, failure to have automotive insurance, misuse of marker plates, and driving an unregistered vehicle. O’Connell was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 15, police said. (Hicks photo)
