$Volunteer firefighters extricated a local woman from the wreckage of a two-vehicle accident on January 23, after the sedan that she was driving on Walnut Tree Hill Road was involved in a head-on collision. Police said motorist Emily Card, 20, of 4 Deer Trail was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon sedan westward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, which then crossed over the road’s centerline at about 10:46 am and collided with eastbound motorist Gerard Cole, 58, of 9 Scenic View Drive, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet G-2500 van. The accident occurred just northeast of Walnut Tree Hill Road’s intersection with Alberts Hill Road. Sandy Hook and Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the incident. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Card to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Cole reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Card an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve. (Hicks photo)$
