Eleven firefighters from Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue spent Friday, October 25, at Sandy Hook School. Firefighters took one of the company’s engines to Chalk Hill School in Monroe for the annual Fire Prevention presentations. All students had time with the firefighters that Friday, learning lessons that will hopefully stay with them and keep them safe for the rest of their lives. Engineer Rob Sibley led each presentation, which was adjusted for the different grade levels. He was backed by his fellow firefighters in explaining gear, equipment, the importance of checking batteries in home fire alarms, and the importance of having a safe place to meet in the event of an emergency in the home. Students also had the opportunity to head outdoors for a few minutes to explore the fire engine before returning to class. (Hicks photo)
