Longtime Main Street resident Lucy Sullivan prepared for 3,300 Halloween visitors last week, but tells The Newtown Bee she did not go through all of her candy this year. Many of her neighbors prepared for 2,000 visitors and did run out, around 7 pm, after trick or treaters descended upon Main Street for the first full Halloween celebration since 2010. Halloween in town had been all but cancelled in 2011 after Winter Storm Alfred dropped heavy, wet snow across the region and created dangerous settings for the autumn holiday. Last year it was Superstorm Sandy that diminished the season’s spirits, causing town officials to ask residents to wait until November 4 for trick or treating. Last week costumed residents of all ages returned for the seasonal fun, including this crew seen heading up Church Hill Road around 5 pm. After speaking with some of her neighbors, Mrs Sullivan estimates approximately 2,500 guests visited some of the Main Street homes this year. (Bobowick photo)
