Former New Fairfield resident who has called Newtown home since August, James Marino had the pond and the mid-January sunset to himself Wednesday afternoon. With light supplies of a hand drill to cut a hole through the ice, a small pole and a pail, he stood at the center of Warner Pond on Old Mill Road off of Route 34, surrounded only by frigid trees. Just past 4 pm as fading orange sunlight slipped through the trees, Mr Marino watched for movement on his line. He had some earlier luck and caught two “miniscule”fish.
