Town Tax Assessor Penny Mudgett, left, takes the oath of office on June 18 from Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead in the public records vault at the town clerk’s office at Newtown Municipal Center. On June 16, the Board of Selectmen appointed Ms Mudgett as tax assessor. She had been serving as the town’s interim tax assessor since the departure of former tax assessor Chris Kelsey, who took a similar position in Middlebury.
