The main room of Jean Sander’s English garden is what Jean calls her “troughery,” or a room filled with troughs dating from the 18th and 19th Centuries. Many have been filled with plantings, including this treasure: an antique planter coupled with a set of seven 19th Century stones out of an estate in Maine. The Sander home is at 211 Walnut Tree Hill Road, at the corner of Glen Road. For those using GPS, the couple suggests entering 107 Glen Road, as the garden’s entrance is from the Glen Road side of the property. Parking is available on Glen Road. In addition to Jean’s garden, one garden in Ridge-field will also be open on June 7. Admission is $7 per garden, with children ages 12 and under admitted free of charge. All proceeds benefit The Garden Conservancy. For additional information including future Open Days dates and locations, visit gardenconservancy.org. Additional information is also available by calling The Garden Conservancy, toll-free, weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm, at 888-842-2442. (Hicks photo)
