The annual Fill the Fire Truck Food Drive is just around the corner. Newtown firefighters will be spending time outside two of the town’s markets this month, accepting donations for FAITH Food Pantry just in time for Thanksgiving. Members of Hawleyville, Newtown Hook & Ladder, and Sandy Hook fire companies will be at Big Y, at 6 Queen Street, on Saturday, November 21, from 9 am until 2 pm. Then on Sunday, members of Botsford and Dodgingtown will be outside Stop & Shop at 228 South Main Street. FAITH Food Pantry volunteers are hoping for everything that will help those in need put together a Thanksgiving dinner, so any related items will be gratefully received. The nonecumenical pantry, located in the basement of St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook, is also in need of tuna, canned stews and vegetables, healthy and beauty items, paper goods, and pet foods. Financial donations and gift cards can also be given to the pantry. Lee Paulsen, left, director of the food pantry, recently met with Karin Halstead, Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue EMS Captain and organizer of Fill The Fire Truck, to go over what the pantry needs this year. Judging by the shelves behind them, the answer is “plenty.” (Hicks photo)
