Sandy Hook Center skirts the Pootatuck River’s rushing waters, which moved gently Wednesday afternoon. Slipping over stones and passing beneath the Church Hill Road bridge on its way to Lake Zoar, the water moved unnoticed by traffic overhead. But a small footbridge, park bench, and stone path reaching the river’s edge are proof that the water is a tranquil retreat from the bustling shops and rush hour noise above. The scene took on a distinctly winter cast as temperatures fell and the town entered late November and the final weeks of fall. (Bobowick photo)
