The Newtown/Danbury unit of Church Women United joined World Community Day celebrations “going on internationally,” local unit president Darlene Jackson said on November 8. Mrs Jackson offered the Welcome and Invocation Saturday morning at the C.H. Booth Library, before turning the podium over to Celebrations Chair Linda Manganaro. In introducing the morning’s guest speaker, Mrs Manganaro described Diane Leaman as “a very spiritual person who has done a lot of good in the community.” Mrs Leaman, at left, had been invited by CWU-Newtown/Danbury to share her story of helping others through their grief, which followed the CWU World Community Day theme of “Through God Our Hands Can Heal.” The Newtown resident talked about The Regional Hospice & Home Care’s Healing Hearts Center For Grief & Loss during her keynote last weekend for Church Women United. She has been a volunteer for Regional Hospice since 1994, and a volunteer for Healing Hearts since 1997. “It’s very dear to my heart,” she said of the time that has been devoted to helping others. “It’s really a calling for me.” (Hicks photo)
