Workers for HLC Excavation & Tank Removal of Woodbury labored on a cold, blustery Wednesday, November 19, in seeking to remove an underground fuel storage tank at 77 Main Street, which is the former headquarters of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The workers encountered a problem, however, when they found that a buried sanitary sewer line is located above the underground tank. Other utility lines also were found near the buried tank. The workers are expected to return soon to resume the project. The underground tank had been used for gasoline storage by a gas station that occupied the property before the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association acquired the site. The ambulance corps is now located in new quarters at Fairfield Hills. (Gorosko photo)
