Local emergency services volunteers held a holiday food donation drive on Saturday, November 22, to benefit the FAITH Food Pantry, which is based at St John’s Episcopal Church basement in Sandy Hook Center. Members of the Newtown Hook & Ladder, Sandy Hook, and Hawleyville volunteer fire companies, as well the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, joined forces for the project, which was held in front of the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street. At the November 22 event, emergency services workers collected 69 turkeys, one ham, 115 boxes of food, and $613 in cash. On November 16, members of the Botsford and Hawleyville volunteer fire companies held a similar food drive at Sand Hill Plaza, where they collected 42 boxes of food, three turkeys, and $769 in cash and gift cards.
