Week of November 6, 2015
The Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Company Ladies Auxiliary is looking for new members. To introduce themselves to the community, and to answer questions about their work, the auxiliary will host an open house on Tuesday, November 10, at 7 pm. After a brief business meeting, members will introduce themselves to guests and explain their role as a support group for the fire company. The auxiliary supports firefighters in the event of large fires and other community emergencies, including respite care by means of water, snacks, and meals when needed. The group does fundraising through annual Easter and Mother’s Day flower sales, and participates in firehouse events. Auxiliary members do not need to have a relative in the fire company to join. Members need to be at least age 19, however. General membership meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. The open house will be at the Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue main station, at 18-20 Riverside Road. Light refreshments will be served. From left are some of the auxiliary’s current members, Joyce Staudinger, Janice Butler, Debbie Aurelia Halstead, Laurie Comerford, Christine O’Grady, and Donna Liska; Ms Comerford is president of the auxiliary. Reservations are not necessary, but additional information is available from Ms Comerford at 203-948-4804. (Hicks photo)
