As seen from the town park off Bridge End Farm Lane, rehabilitation work is progressing on Silver Bridge, which spans the Lake Zoar section of the Housatonic River, linking Glen Road in Sandy Hook to River Road in Southbury. A tarpaulin covers a section of the bridge where painting is underway. The span is carrying one-way alternating traffic to allow the project to proceed. When completed, the bridge which has been brown, will be painted a silvery color. The 308-foot-long bridge was built in 1936. For decades it had been a silvery paint color, which led to generations of local residents referring to the span as Silver Bridge (which is, officially, Bridge 00507 in state records). A past improvement project resulted in the bridge being painted its current brown. McNamee Construction Corp of Lincolndale, N.Y., is doing the $4.47 million project for the state Department of Transportation. (Gorosko photo)
